After assessing each patron's particular circumstances and going over options, our Self-Help Center's expertly trained staff and volunteers offer guidance, access to court forms, helpful information and or referrals to for all Michigan residents. In-person filing is available Mondays and Thursdays.
The Center offers meaningful, effective assistance on a range of common legal topics. These include but are not limited to:
- Divorce
- Child Support
- Parenting Time
- Custody, Paternity
- Court-Fee Waivers
What we do
- Staff and volunteers provide expert guidance, information, forms, and resources to help with simple legal problems and navigating the court system.
- Note – services do not include legal advice or legal representation

- Ensure the legal system remains an inclusive and accessible avenue for all individuals.
Requirements
- No income requirements
- Open to any and all residents, not just Wayne County
- No time limit per visit

Guidelines
- For your safety and the safety of our staff and volunteers, we ask that you wear a mask or face covering while in the Self-Help Center.
- The Wayne County Self-Help Center is closed on all court holidays. (link to holidays)

Specialty Clinics
- William Booth Clinic
- Attorneys and law students help qualifying low-income, self-represented parties prepare Complaints, Motions, and Judgments
- All Family Law issues (excluding Default Judgments)
- Every Thursday each month (except the first Thursday of the month)
- 12:00pm until 4:00pm (in person)
- CAYMC 7th floor – Suite 784
- Low income requirement of less than $12,000 a year
- DBA Legal Services Clinics
- Provides an opportunity to consult with volunteer attorneys (But this does not include legal representation) on divorce; child support; expungement; small claims; driver’s license restoration; landlord-tenant; traffic tickets and general civil law
- No Income Requirements
- Third Tuesday of each month
