Subject:	Cleaning of Frank Murphy Hall of Justice Due to Coronavirus

 

Detroit, MI – Lillian Diallo, the Vice President of the Wayne County Criminal Defense Bar Association, has advised Third Circuit Court Chief Judge Timothy Kenny that one of her members tested positive for the Coronavirus on March 21, 2020. The defense attorney appeared at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice (FMHJ) throughout the week of March 9, 2020.

As the attorney had been in various areas of the courthouse and in contact with court users, staff, and jurors throughout the week, the Third Circuit Court contacted the impacted elected officials, the Defenders’ and Prosecutor’s Offices, the local department of health, the State Court Administrative Office, and the media as precautionary measures.

Individuals who worked at or appeared in FMHJ during the relevant time period should contact their medical providers and follow the Center of Disease Control’s protocols regarding exposure to the Coronavirus.

In efforts to limit the possible risk to employees, justice partners, and the public, the Court has hired an outside vendor to thoroughly clean the court locations. The deep cleaning of the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice will start Monday, March 23, 2020.
All matters scheduled for March 23-24, 2020 at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice will be adjourned to the extent possible. Only emergency matters that cannot be adjourned until Wednesday will be heard by Chief Judge Kenny at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center. All participants on scheduled matters will be notified with instructions regarding hearing dates, times, and the use of Zoom technology.

When the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice reopens Wednesday, March 25, 2020, attorneys, defendants, and witnesses will be able to appear remotely for proceedings using Zoom technology.
