Detroit, MI - The Third Judicial Circuit Court of Wayne County has warned the public of various scams involving missed jury service. The Court has recently received notice of several jury scams this holiday season.

Most scams involve an innocent person receiving a call advising she missed jury service and there is a citation for a bench warrant. The citation must be paid immediately or she will be subject to arrest or an arrest warrant will be issued. The scam artist may identify himself as a law enforcement or court deputy and provide a badge number and phone number. The scam artist may ask for the person’s name, address, social security number. The scam artist may tell the person to stay on the phone and not attempt to disconnect. The scam artist may direct the person meet them with cash or purchase gift cards and provide the numbers off the back of the card to pay the citation. THIS IS A SCAM.

The Third Judicial Circuit Court does not initiate calls about missed jury service.

The Third Judicial Circuit Court will not ask for your social security number or other private information.

If you receive a call about missed jury service, do not respond to this phone call or pay anyone any sum of money. Obtain as much information as you can about the caller and report it to your local police department.

If you missed jury duty in the Third Judicial Circuit Court, you will not receive a phone call requesting money and threatening arrest. You may contact the Court if you failed to appear for jury duty. If you were to serve at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, please call 313-224-5650. If you were to serve at Frank Murphy Hall of Justice, please call 313-224-2507. If you do not call, you may receive a Show Cause Order requiring your presence in Court on a specific date to explain why you missed court.
