Detroit, MI - Judge Timothy M. Kenny succeeds the Honorable Robert J. Colombo as the Chief Judge of the Third Circuit Court. The Third Circuit Court is the largest trial court in Michigan with 58 judges and over 600 staff positions. Chief Judge Kenny has served on the bench 22 years. He was recently honored by The Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan and serves an instructor for judicial trainings at the Michigan Judicial Institute. Chief Judge Kenny will continue to work with Wayne County, the Court’s funding unit, in planning the new Criminal Court Complex. Chief Judge Kenny wants to foster continued innovation, spark creativity, and ensure “the best ideas win” as the Court moves forward with its Strategic Plan adopted in 2017.

As one of his first duties, Chief Judge Kenny appointed the following judges to leadership roles with the Third Circuit Court:
• Chief Judge Pro Tem and Presiding Judge, Civil Division – Judge Patricia P. Fresard
• Presiding Judge, Criminal Division – Judge Prentis Edwards, Jr.

The Court will issue a separate release later this month with the bios for the Presiding Judges. Additional judges will be asked to serve on the Court Executive Team and the first order of business for the Executive Team will be focused on improving court access, services, and programs.

The Mission of Third Judicial Circuit Court is to provide accessible and equal justice with timely dispute resolution.
