Third Circuit Court Judge David A. Groner Hosts a Portrait Unveiling of Judge Harry B. Keidan

 

 

Detroit, MI - Third Circuit Court Judge David A. Groner will host the unveiling of Judge Harry B. Keidan’s portrait on October 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in his courtroom . U.S. Eastern District Judge Avern Cohn will share the history of Judge Keidan whose accomplishment include sitting as a one-man jury inquiring in the Detroit banking crisis of 1933. Judge Cohn vividly remembers the shock of the banks closing in 1933 and has authored articles and materials about Judge Keidan’s role as the one-man grand jury to determine if the bank management’s misconduct was the cause of the bank failures.

The portrait of Judge Keidan hangs in Judge Groner’s courtroom. Judge Keidan was the first Jewish Judge elected to the Third Circuit Court. Judge Keidan served on the bench 1927 - 1943. The Legal Community is invited to attend the unveiling.

The portrait unveiling shines a light on the rich and diverse history of the Third Circuit Court, which is being preserved and shared by the Court’s Historical Committee. The Third Circuit Court Historical Committee was established in 2017 and is comprised of volunteer court staff and judges.
