Quote Of The Month
Let our
hearts and hands be stretched out in
compassion toward others, for everyone
is walking his or her own difficult
path.
~Dieter F.
Uchtdorf
Chief
Judge Robert J. Colombo, Jr.
&
Nicole White,
Domestic Relations Specialist in
FOC.
June's
Quote of the Month Winner.
Ms.
White said she chose this quote because,
"You just never know what people are
going through, and your compassion could
make a positive impact or be the high
point of someone's day." Ms. White

JUVENILE MENTAL HEALTH
COURT
On
May 23, 2016, we hosted our Community Partners
meeting at Lincoln Hall, and provided an update
of JMHC. We enjoyed a great turnout and
received good feedback from our partners and
stakeholders. David Silver, founder of
Detroit Horse Power, is our newest community
partner, and he gave us a synopsis of his
program. He organizes four to six camps
during the summer for urban youth to learn to
care for and ride horses at various stables in
the metro area. Detroit Horse Power hopes
to one day have its own facility within the
City, and JMHC hopes to partner with him in the
future for the youth participating in our
program. We are excited about how
supportive the community has been regarding
JMHC. We are committed to making this a
program that truly benefits the participants as
we assist them on their journey to maintain
positive mental health.

DAD - WE NEED YOU
Father's
Day honors all men who are fathers or father
figures in a child's life. It was
created to afford celebration of the strong
and significant role that men have within the
family unit.
Research
shows children are more likely to succeed in
school and in adulthood when a father, a male
caregiver, or a male mentor is actively
involved in a child's life. His
presence and attention will shape and
influence their behavior in many important
ways and is seen as being crucial to the
emotional well-being of a child, well into
their adult lives.
It
is our charge, our responsibility, to engage
fathers and male mentors in the care and
education of their children, as well as with
all the youth in our communities. Help
spread the message to all men, that being the
importance of a father's role in the life of
a child. Take some time this month to
acknowledge the men in your life that have
helped make you the person you are
today...because Dad...we need you.

Spring has sprung and
Mental Health Court (MHC) participants are
engaged and busy. MHC partnered with
Michigan State University - Detroit Center,
Cooperative Extension Program; where
participants could enroll in a six week "Be
Healthy, Be Active," class. They learned
how to eat on a budget, learned tips on weight
management, and learned that healthy eating and
physical activity were the keys for living
well. Participants enjoyed the class so
much that they re-enrolled in another six week,
"Cooking Matters," class with MSU Extension and
Gleaners Food Bank. In this class,
participants learned how to shop and cook. They
also received free groceries. At the end
of the six week session, they received a
certificate of completion and a
cookbook.
MHC
is also partnering with the Greening of
Detroit for its third year.
Participants will be involved in a six
week community volunteer program; which will
allow them to increase their intake of fresh
produce, get exercise, and learn about
nutrition and gardening. This
experience will provide a "hands-on"
connection to our community and inspire a
sense of commitment and
belonging.

Greetings,
An
anonymous author wrote,
"Because
it's summer and the memories are just
waiting to happen."
Summer
is almost here. The school year is
winding to a close, and families are
planning picnics and vacations. There
are so many pleasant memories to be made,
whether it is at a backyard barbeque or an
exotic getaway. There is
relaxation, adventure, and fun to be
had. There are also many community
events sponsored by Court
partners. We are
finalizing the dates that we will
participate on EBUS with Fifth-Third
Bank. We hope that we have an
opportunity to see you and serve
you. We welcome the summer and
hope you enjoy the warm weather, the
sunshine, and family and friends.

Coleman A. Young Municipal
Center. Hon. Brian Sullivan
delivered the welcoming address, and
Hon. Sheila Gibson administered the
Oath.
There
were two unique private
ceremonies held in the
courthouse as well.
Judge Lisa
M. Neilson swore in her
Judicial Assistant
Christina M. DiMichele.
Christina earned her
Bachelor's degree from Grand
Valley State University and
her Juris Doctorate from the

Family Law began while taking
a class at UDM Law that was

McCarthy.

Colombo, Jr. swore in
Carly Colombo. Carly
graduated from Wayne State
University Law School.
She is the first of the
