NOTE :

The Michigan Legal Help Self-Help of Wayne County will offer limited services during the holiday.   The Center Navigator will be in Room 901-E of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center on December 28th - December 30th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
CASA

         
On Friday November 20, 2015, the Kappa Alpha Thea Alumni (Grosse Point Group), presented the Wayne County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) with 172 handmade scarves to present to our CASA children for the winter.  A special thank you to Friends of Wayne County CASA, Chairperson Elena Kerasiotis for making this all happen.  We would especially like to thank Katie Andercovich, Karen Fisher, Gabrelle Pluhar for their hard work in making this happen.  These scarves will make a difference in our CASA children's lives.

WSU offers high school students guaranteed admission to medical school and fully paid tuition for 8 years.

Coat Donations Are Needed
 
The Court's Clothing Closet is housed at the Lincoln Hall of Justice located at 1025 E. Forest Bldg. B, Room 118.  Donations are accepted on Tuesdays - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 
 
Currently donations of coats are needed for the upcoming winter season.  Please direct questions to Roland Smith, the CASA Director, at 313-833-3507.  This closet is open to everyone and no one will be turned away. 
 
All donations to Friends of CASA are tax deductible.

Third Judicial Circuit of Michigan
Employee Recognition Ceremony

On Friday, December 4, 2015 in the 13 th Floor Auditorium of the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, we recognized and celebrated the loyalty, dedication, and commitment of Third Circuit Court employees, who had served 20 years or more.  Just short of 200 employees fell within that category.  Over 100 appeared for the ceremony and reception.  Each employee was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation, $50 gift card, and an engraved memento box.  Chief Judge Robert J. Colombo, Jr. and Executive Court Administrator Zenell Brown congratulated each employee.
 
The ceremony was also attended by Chief Judge Pro Tem and Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division, the Honorable Timothy M. Kenny; the Presiding Judge of the Family Division, Honorable Kathleen M. McCarthy; the Presiding Judge of the Civil Division, Honorable Maria L. Oxholm; the Honorable Adel Harb; the Honorable Catherine Heise; the Honorable Charles S. Hegarty; the Honorable Eric Cholack; the Honorable Kathleen Macdonald; the Honorable Lynne Pierce; and the Honorable Lawrence Talon.  Administration was also represented by Chief Financial Officer Violet Leonard; General Counsel Richard Lynch; Friend of the Court and Deputy Court Administrator for the Family Division, Kent Weichmann; Deputy Court Administrator for the Criminal Division, Alisa Shannon and Deputy Court Administrator for the Juvenile Division, Richard Smart.
 
The Court wishes to thank the committee that put the ceremony together.  They are Mary Kay Wimsatt, Alisa Shannon, Richard Smart, Jan Hiller, Jalona Colvard, and Jeannette Heacox.
 

The School of Criminal Justice
Wall of Fame 

The School of Criminal Justice Wall of Fame honors a select group of alumni who have distinguished themselves by attaining the highest level of professional accomplishment while demonstrating strong personal integrity and character.  The standards are extremely high and attract an impressive group of individuals who are truly the "best of the best".  We would like to congratulate Kelvin Banks who was one of the Awardees.

Self-Help Center 

The Michigan Legal Help Self-Help Center of Wayne County helps residents of Detroit and Wayne County who are unable to afford an attorney.   The Self-Help Center is now located in Smart Detroit, Suite 1300 of the Penobscot Building at 645 Griswold in Detroit.  
 
The Self-Help Center is now open Monday through Thursday from 9:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.
