WHY IS JURY DUTY IMPORTANT?

Wayne County jury service is a "one day/one trial" term of service. If you are selected to serve on a trial, you will serve only for the duration of that one trial. Average length of a trial is three (3) to four (4) days. Jurors not selected or not involved in a continuing selection at the end of the day will complete their service at the end of the day that they report.

Failing to answer and return the Jury Service Questionnaire and failing to appear when summoned as a juror without being excused are punishable acts of contempt.

Jurors who were summoned after January 1, 2014 and failed to answer and return the questionnaire or failed to appear may avoid contempt proceedings by contacting Jury Services and requesting a new date for service.

The Jury office contact number for Frank Murphy Hall of Justice is (313) 224-2590.  The Jury office contact number for the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center is (313) 224-5650.

Why Is Jury Service Important?

The United States Constitution guarantees all people, regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin, or economic status, the right to trial by an impartial jury. Justice ultimately depends to a large measure upon the quality of the jurors who serve in our courts.
