The Third Circuit Court Diversity and Inclusion Team’s Mission: "We appreciate our common connection and respect our diverse and unique human experiences. We move forward as an inclusive organization as we provide accessible and equal justice."

The Court’s Diversity & Inclusion Team strives to ensure the values of its diverse bench, staff, and court users are acknowledged and reflected in our delivery of service as well as our work environment.

In that spirit, the team creates and shares a monthly list of various holidays and observations along with some celebration suggestions. We invite our work community and the community at large to contribute.

National Black Business Month – August 1 – 31, 2022
August is National Black Business Month, a designated time to celebrate and support Black-owned businesses nationwide. Whether it is on social media or in-person, people use the month to exchange tips and information on their favorite Black-owned businesses. It is also a time many corporations highlight, invest in, and partner with Black-owned businesses to show their support and commitment to people of color.
Splendor of the East Celebration @ Stony Creek Metropark – August 6, 2022
Now in its 21st year, the Council of Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA) proudly presents its signature event Splendor of the East. CAPA’s much anticipated annual cultural showcase will take place at Stony Creek Metropark on Saturday August 6, 2022 at 4:00 PM.

Feast of the Assumption – August 15, 2022
A holy day for many Christians and a Day of Obligation for Catholics, the Assumption celebrates Mary’s Assumption into Heaven. The day is observed by masses and processions.
 
Janmashtami Birth of Krishna – August 18-19, 2022
The Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. This holiday is celebrated by nearly a billion people worldwide. The first day is Janmashtami and observed with fasting and praying. The second day, Dahi Handi, is celebrated with kite-flying contests, entertainment, and traditional sweets.
Arab Film Festival – August 12-21, 2022
The Arab American National Museum presents this hybrid film festival with the in-person portion beginning on August 12. AANM’s film programming highlights Arab and Arab American filmmakers and artists and gives them a platform to share their unique stories while connecting communities through film, art, and dialogue. The film programs bring a wide range of new and classic films by Arab and Arab American filmmakers to community members far and wide.
 
Pow Wow in the D - Annual Pow Wow and Health Fair – August 27, 2022
Begun in 2010 but on hold during COVID, this event is presented by American Indian Health and Family Services. Gates open at 11:00 a.m. with a Wellness walk and closes at 4:00 p.m. Grand Entrance will be at 12:00. The celebration will be held at Romanowski Park, 4499 Lonyo, Detroit.
